Saturday Afternoon Goalies (SAGs)

I guess for goalies, I'd put the top 25. In my opinion, goaltending is by far the most difficult position to keep a hold of. While forwards and defensemen may go up or down in line combinations, goalies have only one choice, either u start in net, or ride the pine.

Top 25 Goalies
1. Carey Price
2. Jonas Hiller
3. Tim Thomas
4. Cam Ward
5. Tomas Vokoun
6. Henrik Lundqvist
7. Jonathan Quick
8. Jimmy Howard
9. Ondrej Pavelec
10. Ilya Bryzgalov
11. Kari Lehtonen
12. Roberto Luongo
13. Miikka Kiprusoff
14. Marc-Andre Fleury
15. Jaroslav Halak
16. Niklas Backstrom
17. Sergei Bobrovsky
18. Ryan Miller
19. Michal Neuvirth
20. Brian Elliott
21. Nikolai Khabibulin
22. Pekka Rinne
23. Steve Mason
24. Antero Niittymaki
25. Corey Crawford

Hot 5
1. Jonas Hiller - the recurring trend with Hiller is that if he gives up two goals or less, he wins, if he gives up three or more, he loses, guess what's he been doing as of late?
2. Brian Boucher - while he has temporarily wrestled the starting job from Bobrovsky in Philly, don't expect him to be in the driver's seat after Christmas. Laviolette showed that he's willing to alternate goalies, even though Boucher has been on fire the past two weeks
3. Jonathan Quick - since Thanksgiving, Quick has given up three or more goals only three times, everything else has been two goals or less. He's shown a lot of consistency  with a string of games giving up only two goals, but he had two games against St. Louis and Chicago where he gave up 5 and 3 goals respectively, although, those two games were sandwiched by shutouts. Expect Quick to hover around 2.00 GAA for the rest of the season
4. Tomas Vokoun - he's been really solid as of late, although giving up three goals in back-to-back games might make some owners cringe, he's also had a pair of shutouts and some other good quality starts.
5. Niklas Backstrom - after splitting time with Theodore, he's now had three straight games where he's only given up 1 goal per. Also noted is the fact that he has three straight wins.

Cold 5
1. Marty Turco - why people still own this guy is beyond me... he's been god awful for a while now and has lost the starting gig to Corey Crawford
2. Martin Brodeur - wait... what? Brodeur is mortal? Outside of a shutout against Phoenix, he's given up 2 or more goals in every game since he came back... and those games with 3 or more goals? He's lost all of them. The lowlight was getting pulled against the Islanders after giving up five goals. Clearly, his career is on the downward spiral.
3. Semyon Varlamov - I love Varly, don't get me wrong, but he's been garbage this month. He had a good game against St. Louis to start the month, then Washington went on that horrible 8 game slide which had Varly eating four losses and a 3.75 GAA during the stretch while giving up 7 goals against the Rangers. Tread carefully owners as he may be getting starts again in the near future
4. Jonas Gustavsson - while Giguere is on the bench resting a Groin injury, Gustavsson will be starting... cept he's only won 4 games this season. Not to mention, he gave up five goals against Atlanta recently. Last time he won was against Washington during their 8 game losing streak... and before that, he hadn't won since before Thanksgiving. Maybe he needs X-mas to get his game back... or maybe he should go back to Sweden
5. Steve Mason - honestly, I'm waiting for this kid to get demoted back to the minors. I think it's about that time...

More to come next week!
