There is a formula as to how i derived these rankings, but the formula is also different that what I used for forwards since defensemen are not as likely to score points. Again, the five items I calculated were G, A, +/-, PIM, and SOG.

5 Hottest Defensemen
1. Dan Boyle - 4 game point streak with 2 goals and three assists, as well as a +2 and 14 SOG makes him a hot commodity
2. Stephane Robidas - 7 assists in the last 6 games, including a 3 assist night against Montreal and a +6 over that span
3. Brian Rafalski - 5 game point streak with 8 assists during that span, has yet to score a goal this season, but is averaging almost an assist per game.
4. Tobias Enstrom - had a monster 4 point night against Toronto with 2 goals and 2 assists and had a span of 6 pts over three games, including the Toronto game, I'm sure we'd all like to see more consistency out of him.
5. Dustin Byfuglien - Buff's got the stuff, a goal in each of the pat two games and 7 points in the last 7 games, Buff is always going to have the stuff.

5 Coldest Defensemen
1. Michael Del Zotto - past five games, 1 A, +2, and 4 SOG, not to mention he was scratched against Ottawa and missed the game against Tampa with a stomach ailment, he's not really performing well at all this year...
2. Andy Greene - in what can only be described as a miserable year for the Devils, Andy Greene's +/- is taking a beating with a -23 this season. Not only that, he's had a -5 in the past four games and has only posted a positive once since thanksgiving.. speaking of which... he hasn't scored since then either...
3. Matt Carle - while he's not a bad player, ever since Pronger went down, he hasn't been the same defensively with the increased workload, especially last night against Florida
4. Brad Stuart - four straight games with a negative +/- says it all...
5. Sergei Gonchar - the Pittsburgh Power Play hasn't been the same since he left and his play hasn't been the same since he left. He's got a brutal +/- this season and has two assists this month with nothing but 0's or negatives in the +/-

I guess that's it for now, more to come next week as I figure out what I'm going to do with all these numbers...
